This annual two-day summit, organised by the Istanbul-based Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation, was held online this year due to COVID-19.
Alderman Edham of No5 presented to a global audience by delivering a speech on UK-Turkey economic relations and the Belt and Road Initiative in the current and post-Covid settings.
The focus of the speech highlighted the underlying fundamentals of the economies of the UK and Turkey and addressed whether these economies can rediscover the strength to adapt to new trends in the post-Covid era.
During the speech, the Alderman remarked: “Whilst the effects of Covid is felt in both countries, the combination of these economic assets, proven adaptability and the proven resilience of both economies will be the route to recovery and further progress.
“Politically, the UK’s relationship with Turkey continues to be one of the closest of all Europeans. The two governments strongly support UK-Turkey business collaboration that allows both parties to benefit from the complementary and respective strengths of the two economies.”
Alderman Emma Edhem is an elected member of the Upper House of the City of London Corporation, Chairman of the Turkish British Chamber of Commerce and Industry was joined by delegates which represented 40 countries, including heads of state and governments, ministers, members of parliament, former presidents and prime ministers.
