A No5 barrister has seen a West Midlands police officer acquitted after he faced an assault charge following a high-speed chase.
Sharon Bahia defended Pc Sunil Narr, 32 from Oldbury, at Birmingham Crown Court, who denied assault occasioning actual bodily harm. It took the jury one hour and 20 minutes to find him not guilty.
It was alleged that Narr had struck the driver, Joshua Ward, over the head with a baton after the chase in the Hillfields area of Coventry on August 1, 2017.
Mr Ward was taken to hospital after the incident, but jurors dismissed the prosecution’s claims that the blow to the head was intentional, and concluded that Narr aimed for the shoulder and accidentally struck Ward over the head.
