Michael Duck QC of No5 Barristers’ Chambers saw murderer Glen Elvin jailed for life over the death of his cousin in a knife attack following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
The jury heard that Christopher Harm, 28, of Gateshead, died following a stab wound to the chest.
Michael Duck QC led the prosecution in the trial of father-of-three Glen Elvin who denied murder, saying it had never been his intention to kill his cousin. He claimed he had grabbed the weapon to ward him off.
However, Elvin, 26, of no fixed address but formerly of County Durham, was found guilty after the jury returned a unanimous verdict after three hours of deliberation.
The two men had grown up together in the North East and were in the Black Country to promote a circus. After a night out on Saturday, October 13, 2018, a petty exchange between the pair escalated and Elvin grabbed a knife and began chasing his cousin across a car park.
In a drunken rage, Elvin plunged the knife into his cousin’s chest with such force that it pierced his heart. Mr Harm, of Sunniside, was pronounced dead at the scene in Engine Lane, near Merry Hill shopping centre in Brierley Hill, despite the best efforts of the paramedics and police officers to save him.
Elvin will spend a minimum of 19 years and 203 days behind bars, taking into account time already spent in jail.
