No5 Barristers’ Chambers crime specialist Phil Bradley QC has successfully prosecuted a murder case at Birmingham Crown Court.

Gavin Casey, 31, was jailed for life, with a minimum of 20 years, after being found guilty of murdering Christopher Messenger, 36, at a shared house in Highfield Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham, in February.

Presenting the prosecution Mr Bradley said Casey had “flown into a jealous rage” after his former partner, who lived at the address, offered to make Mr Messenger a cup of tea.

Casey threw a TV at the woman when she asked him to leave her room, and then went to Mr Messenger’s room where he carried out the brutal attack.

Mr Messenger, who had been recovering from injuries sustained in a collision, suffered fatal head injuries after Casey stamped on his head and dropped a television on his head. Mr Messenger died in hospital three days later.

Mr Bradley told the court Casey was captured on CCTV laughing and screaming in the car park of the building as he fled the scene in search of drugs after carrying out the murderous assault.

Casey later climbed the frame of a gas holder in Aston and was talked down by police and arrested.

Mr Messenger’s family said they were glad justice had been done.
