Planning and Environment expert Jack Smyth of No5 Barristers’ Chambers has been appointed as a Drainage Member of the Agricultural Land Tribunal of Wales.
The Agricultural Land Tribunal of Wales is an independent Tribunal established to resolve certain disputes relating to agricultural holdings.
It plays an important role in determining disputes relating to the drainage of agricultural land as well disputes and other issues between agricultural landlords and tenants arising from tenancy agreements. Jack will be responsible for chairing tribunal panels.
Although the tribunal is funded by the Welsh Government, the tribunal, its members and decisions are independent of central and local government.
Jack, who has been awarded the Legal 500 UK Regional Barrister of the Year for 2018, has been cited for ‘punching his weight across a number of practice areas’ and his work has seen him acting for a range of prominent clients in the Appellate Courts and at Public Inquiries.
He has vast experience of representing clients at Public Inquiries in relation to residential proposals and is well versed on housing land supply, heritage, landscape and urban design. Jack also has substantial experience in relation to Enforcement Appeals, Injunctions, Statutory Nuisance, CPO, Judicial Review and Statutory Challenges. He is also well versed in obtaining injunctive relief in respect of unauthorised breaches of planning control and regularly finds himself in the High Court for injunctions.
