The Divisional Court considered a challenge to the decision of the Prime Minister to appoint Sir Martin Moore-Bick to sit alone when conducting the Grenfell Tower inquiry. Philip Dayle was led by Hugh Southey QC (Matrix Chambers) and instructed by Birnberg Peirce on behalf of the resident who brought the challenge.
The claimant in this case, whose father was among the people who died in the Grenfell Tower fire, sought to renew a judicial review application challenging the Prime Minister’s decision to appoint Sir Martin Moore-Bick to sit alone when conducting the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
LJ Bean refused permission for judicial review of the Prime Minister’s decision contained in the letter of 21 Dec 2017. He emphasised that this decision that ““additional panel members should not be appointed at this stage”” and expressed “no view on what the position would be if an application were to be made for additional panel members to be appointed to sit with Sir Martin during Phase 2 of his Inquiry, which will consider a large number of issues and where different considerations might arguably apply.
