As the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing heads for its finale, members of the Midlands’ legal profession have again signed up for their own sparkling competition.

For the second year running, No5 Chambers is to host Strictly 9 to 5 which will see representatives of the Judiciary, the Bar, solicitors, clerks and other legal professionals compete to lift the glitter ball trophy.

And once again, Strictly Come Dancing favourite Anton Du Beke will be compere for the charity event, which is being held at Birmingham Town Hall on Friday, June 10 2016.

Tickets have now gone on sale for the evening of dance and entertainment, and organisers are hoping to at least match the £23,000 raised this year for The Child Brain Injury Trust.

Tony McDaid, Practice Director at No5 Chambers, said: “I was privileged to be able to hand over a cheque to CBIT for £23,208 following this year’s hugely successful Strictly 9 to 5, and we really hope that we can at least equal that figure next year.

“Eleven business colleagues representing some of Birmingham’s top legal firms have put themselves forward for the 2016 competition, all hoping to follow in the footsteps of the 2015 winner Charlotte Doyle from The Wilkes Partnership.

“We want it to be a big success, tapping into the pulling power of the ‘Strictly’ factor. The added bonus for us as a Chambers is that the evening should help us raise even more money for the Child Brain Injury Trust.”

The dance volunteers will meet in January for eight weeks of group dance sessions before partnering with a dance professional for 14 weeks of one to one training. They will then showcase their performance on the night before a panel of judges in a bid to win the coveted trophy.

The Child Brain Injury Trust was established by a group of health professionals in 1991 to research and provide information regarding the effects of ‘traumatic’ injury on a child’s developing brain. It is the leading voluntary sector organisation providing non-medical services to families affected by childhood acquired brain injury across the UK. It receives no Government or NHS funding. The Trust has a national network of child and family support co-ordinators.

Tickets for the 2016 event will include a drinks reception and canapes, an auction and a raffle for which donations from the business community are still being accepted. Prizes last year included holidays and sporting memorabilia.

All proceeds from this event go to the Child Brain Injury Trust. You are able to make a donation via our Just Giving Page.
