Glasgow University School of Law, the Faculty of Advocates and the Equality and Human Rights Commission Scotland co-hosted a colloquium of experts and experienced practitioners to discuss the particular challenges which are present in the asylum determination process. No5 Barrister S. Chelvan was invited to present his paper on approaches to LGBTI claims and how his DSSH model could be extended to other Particular Social Group Refugee Convention claims. The discussion led to highlighting the positive role of the model in credibility assessment, especially in the pre-decision stage where the Home Office can now highlight the engagement in the shared responsibility role in establishing a claim. Other papers were given by UNHCR, the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association and the Home Office.
