It was heard at Birmingham Crown Court that a Polish man was fatally stabbed in a “chilling” act of random violence in a street in Birmingham.
Lukasz Furmanek, 24 and his friend Radoslaw Dudek both suffered from multiple stab wounds as they crossed paths with their knife wielding attackers.
Mr Fumanek suffered fatal injuries, while Mr Dudek was left clinging onto his life.
The attackers, Abdullah Atiqzoy, 18 and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, both denied murder and attempted murder. It was heard that the defendants tried to flee the country.
No5 Crime Barrister, John Butterfield QC, prosecuting said “Both of the defendants knew what they had done and tried to get away. Not just get away from the Birmingham area but flee this country because they were guilty of wholly unjustified violence which was little short of barbarism in its nature.”
Mr Butterfield continued to say that “What was clear is that the attack was completely unprovoked and completely unjustified. It was also extremely quick.”
It was also heard that Atiqzoy had probably been bound for France and then Afghanistan, while the 16-year-old managed to get to Belgium where he handed himself to the authorities.
The trial continues.
