A man from Walsall has been jailed for three and a half years for attacking his partner with an ornament before she fell from the balcony of her third floor flat.
Michael Riggon, 53, was charged with attempted murder of Kayli Hill following her fall.
On the third day of the trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court the charge was dropped and Riggon admitted to grievous bodily harm to Hill.
It was heard that Hill was attacked with a ‘sizable and robust’ ornament before she fell from the third floor, however Hill came under scrutiny after it emerged she had initially told police Riggon was trying to save her when she fell.
It was heard that if Riggon was found guilty of attempted murder he would likely have faced 20 years in prison.
Judge James Burbidge suggested that a lack of evidence forced the trial to be halted.
Before jailing Riggon, it was heard that there was series of incidents that lead Hill being scared and she felt compelled to get onto the balcony.
