David Mason QC and Anthony Potter’s client acquitted in Spalding murder trial

Six teenagers have been cleared of the murder of Warren Free, who died of head injuries.

A month long trial at Lincoln Crown Court heard that Mr Free suffered the fatal head injuries after confronting a group of teenagers about noise they were making near his home in Spalding in the early hours of the morning.

It was alleged that Mr Free was kicked and punched and one of the teenagers struck him with a metal pole on the head.

The defence argued that the accused were acting lawfully in their own self-defence, or in the defence of others in their group.

The teenagers were also cleared of manslaughter.

One of the boys, 14 at the time, has been found guilty of perverting the course of justice relating to the disposal of a metal pole in the Coronation Channel in Spalding. Another of the boys, 16 at the time, admitted perverting the course of justice.
