Alberto Casiroli has admitted to killing Francesco Leccese, who worked in China Town’s Genting casino, at a home they shared in Ladywood.
Casiroli, 20, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, his not guilty plea to murder was accepted by the prosecution at Birmingham Crown Court.
Adrian Keeling QC, prosecuting, said his plea was on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
It was heard that at the time of the killing he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia which had impaired his ability to form rational judgement.
A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Leccese had died as a result of stab injuries.
The sentence has been adjourned until tomorrow.
