On Thursday 25th June, No5 Chambers will be hosting the launch of two publications with UNHCR, Asylum Aid and the Centre for the Study of Emotion and Law.
Firstly, ‘The Heart of the Matter: Assessing Credibility when children apply for asylum in the European Union’, a UNHCR research study into credibility assessments for unaccompanied asylum seeking children in Austria, Italy, Netherlands and Sweden. The qualitative research highlights both good practice and shortcomings in an effort to contribute to improving and ensuring consistency in the way credibility is assessed across the European Union.
And secondly, ‘Credibility Assessment in Asylum Procedures: A multidisciplinary Training Manual’, a multidisciplinary training manual for asylum professionals which offers hands-on training on the linguistic and gender-related challenges of credibility assessment, as well as a specific focus on credibility assessment with children and in asylum cases based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Also, Asylum Aid’s new video will be launched – Falling at each hurdle: assessing the credibility of women’s asylum claims.
S Chelvan, member of No5’s Immigration Group, Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, representative of UNCHR, and Zoe Given-Wilson, postdoctoral child psychologist researcher from CSEL, will all be speaking.
