Boal UK which operated an aluminium factory in Leicester has been fined £140,000 following the death of an employee from “catastrophic internal injuries”.
Leicester Crown Court heard that the worker, Stefan Durina, 33 became trapped underneath an overturned picker truck which was being used to collect heavy metal moulds.
Alex Stein, prosecuting for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), concluded that the Company had fallen far below the required standard and that the accident was entirely preventable.
Boal UK Ltd pleaded guilty to breaching sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. It was fined £140,000 and ordered to pay £32,251.33 in costs.
