S Chelvan, member of No5 Chambers, appeared on an ITV News special election programme on immigration, which was aired yesterday evening.
Chelvan has recently featured on the ‘I Am An Immigrant’ poster campaign, which was initiated by the Movement Against Xenophobia (MAX) and run through the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI). The campaign seeks to challenge the negative rhetoric against immigrants, celebrate them and provide them with a platform to share their story.
Speaking about the campaign, Chelvan says “There are too many myths at the moment from all sorts of political parties in relation to the contribution or burden they convey migrants have on British society, so we want to show that we actually contribute to, rather than take from, British society”.
