Ecky Tiwana, member of No5 Chambers Crime Group, is defending in a football match fixing trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
Delroy Facey, 34, Huddersfield, a former West Bromwich Albion player, and Moses Swaibu, 25, London, a former Conference South player, have both denied conspiring together with others to commit bribery between 1st November and 27th November 2013.
They are accused of plotting to bribe other players to perform improperly, in order to make profit from rigged bets, acting as go-betweens for two men who have already been convicted of match fixing.
The prosecution opened the trial, which is expected to last two weeks, yesterday.
