John Anslow, 34, Tipton, has dropped an appeal against his seven-year sentence for escaping custody in 2012.
While on the run for 13 months, Anslow was handed a 22 year sentence for conspiring to supply drugs. When captured in 2013, he pleaded guilty to escaping. In 2014 March he was cleared of the murder of businessman Richard Deakin.
Anslow planned to appeal his seven-year sentence for the escape and a hearing was planned, but the lord chief justice, Lord Thomas, said Anslow had ‘abandoned’ his case.
Lord Thomas said “A very much longer sentence would have been amply justified. It must be made very clear that those who seek to spring from custody those charged with the gravity of offending of which Anslow was charged should only expect sentences in double figures.”
