Three New Part Time Judicial Appointments for No5 Chambers

Abid Mahmood, Vinesh Mandalia and Ravinder Bagral Appointed as Deputy Upper Tribunal Judges

No5 Chambers Barristers Abid Mahmood, Vinesh Mandalia and Ravinder Bagral have been appointed Deputy Upper Tribunal Judges of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber.

They will primarily sit at Field House, London, but will also be required to sit at other Upper Tribunals around the country.

The Upper Tribunal is a superior court of record and deals with appeals from the First Tier Tribunal. The jurisdiction of the Upper Tribunal has also recently been increased to deal with Judicial Review cases.

High Court Judges frequently sit in the Upper Tribunal and occasionally Lords Justices of Appeal of the Court of Appeal also sit in the Upper Tribunal to hear cases of particular importance or complexity.

Abid Mahmood was appointed as a Recorder in 2008 and will continue with those judicial duties too both in the Crown Court and County Court. He had also been appointed a FTT Judge in 2006.

Ravinder Bagral was appointed a FTT Judge in 2006.

The roles of Deputy Upper Tribunal Judge are part time roles so all three appointees will continue with their practices as barristers at No5 Chambers.
