A jury at Warwick Crown Court has found PC Vaughan Lowe not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
In April 2012, PC Lowe was responding to a stolen vehicle report, with the cars lights and sirens activated, when student Xuan Wei Zhang, 24, stepped out into the road. Mr Zhang died the day after the accident.
Assistant Chief Constable Gary Cann, from West Midlands Police, said: “There are no winners as a result of today’s verdict. A family remain grieving for a loved one and a highly skilled police officer who has dedicated his life to public service – and who had an otherwise unblemished driving history – will forever be haunted by the events of that night.”
Brian Dean of No5 Chambers defended PC Vaughan.
