Tyler Vallance, 21, Redditch, has been jailed for nine years and Jessica Wiggins, 20, Redditch, has been given a nine-month suspended sentence and a year long supervision order, following the death of their baby daughter.
The court heard that baby Isabella suffered nine broken ribs, and injuries to her head and legs, which were consistent with severe gripping and shaking. Isabella was admitted to hospital on 7 December 2012, after her mother called 999 when she became lifeless, but she died 5 days later.
Vallance pleaded guilty to GBH and manslaughter, while Wiggins was found guilty of allowing the death of her child. At Worcester Crown Court, Judge Juckes said it was accepted Wiggins was a caring and skilled mother but she knew Vallance’s capacity for violence and it would be obvious when Isabella had become lifeless what had happened.
