Former Broadmoor patient, Harry Street, has pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court to making an explosive substance at his Hall Green home last year, while the court accepted his not guilty pleas to four other charges. More than 50 home-made bullets, two pistols and a revolver were found at the pensioners house.
Street, formerly known as Barry Williams, was previously detained under the mental health laws in 1979 for manslaughter of his three neighbours in West Bromwich. The pensioner is due to stand trial at Birmingham Crown Court accused of making an improvised explosive device and the possession of firmarms with the intent to endanger life. Prosecuter, Michael Duck QC, said the decision not to proceed with four of the charges had been taken after consultation with witnesses.
Street, who is currently being treated at the high-security Ashworth Hospital on Merseyside, made the device between January and October of last year.
