The Secretaries of State for Communities and Local Government and for Environment and Rural Affairs  (Eric Pickles and Elizabeth Truss) have today (12 September 2013) published their decision to make an Order granting development consent for the Thames Tideway Tunnel to be built and operated.

This follows the 6 month examination, which started in September 2013, of Thames Water’s application for a DCO under the Planning Act 2008 carried out by a 5 member panel of Inspectors as the Examining Authority. The Examining Authority set out their findings and recommendations  to the Secretaries of State in a report dated 12 June 2014. The Examining Authority were advised throughout by 3 members of No5 Chambers appointed under s.101 of the Planning Act 2008 Martin Kingston QC, Ian Dove QC and Celina Colquhoun.
