Alan Marks, 65, of Shottery, has been given a two-year conditional discharge, disqualified from driving for two years and been ordered to pay £1,200 in costs after being found guilty of dangerous driving.
Marks, who is disabled, was driving on Bridge Street, Stratford and crashed into a coffee shop. He was driving a specially adapted SUV, but confessed that he wasn’t using the adaption on the day of the crash.
Following a four-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court, Marks was found guilty. Sentencing, Recorder Patrick Upward QC, told Mr Marks that the accident had been caused by a “tragic error” on his part. He also said that he considered his excellent record to the community, and that he had initially been told by authorities that he would not be prosecuted.
