S. Chelvan presented his DSSH (‘Difference, Stigma, Shame and Harm’) model this morning at a conference held in Madrid, on how to assess credibility in LGBTI asylum claims.
Over one hundred delegates from the legal and NGO sector, from Europe, Egypt, Iran, Hong Kong and South Korea assembled in Madrid from 5 to 7 May. They shared experience and knowledge from a multi-disciplinary approach, hearing from specialists involved in trauma, memory, and law.
The conference was organised by the ELENA network in conjunction with the European Council for Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and the Hungarian Helsinki Committee. It is part of a wider project with UNHCR and Asylum Aid called the CREDO 2 project.
