No5 Chambers organised a charity bake-off as part of its fundraising program in support of Birmingham Citizens’ Advice Bureau. Sixteen members of staff competed in the event, which raised £524.

Emma Cook, Head of Business Development at Birmingham CAB, judged the cakes, pies and pastries. Pete Mottram was awarded “Best Looking” for his Chocolate and Guinness Cake presented as a pint of Guinness, while “Most Popular” went to Chicken Curry Patties baked by Thelma Cooper.

Emma says: “This was an opportunity for me to mix business with pleasure as I got to sample some of the mouth-watering entries, including Peter’s cake and Thelma’s patties. Birmingham CAB is always trying to cook up a fresh new way to publicise our work and raise funds. I am delighted that No5 Chambers has chosen to support us in this special year. The amount raised by this event will enable us to deliver assessments for 50 people, which is tremendous. I only wish that all fundraising was this tasty.”

No5 Chambers has committed to raising the sum of £10,000 in the run up to Birmingham Citizens’ Advice Bureau 75th anniversary via a combination of sponsorship and fundraising.

Tony McDaid, Practice Director of No5 Chambers, comments:  “We have a respected track record of successful fundraising for worthy causes and sometimes the challenge is to try and come up with a notionally fresh activity to maintain engagement.  Well done to all at No5 who donned aprons and took part in the bake-off. I also wish to thank all those generous local businesses who donated some exciting prizes, including BBC Good Food Show tickets and House of Fraser vouchers for the raffle.”

Among those organisations that donated raffle prizes were:

  • Clash Design – House of Fraser vouchers
  • The Old Contemptibles – a wine hamper
  • Carry on Cupcakes – a dozen vintage cupcakes
  • Connelly’s Wine – large bottles of cider
  • The Drop Forge – a meal for four
