Simon Williams, 29, Wolstanton, Staffs, has been sentenced to six months in prison after admitting fraudulently obtaining cash.
Williams told his family and friends that he had terminal cancer, and his mother, who believed he had only six months left to live, set up a charity collection. He took £99.50 that was meant for a hospice.
After five months Williams’ relatives became suspicious and approached the hospital, who confirmed he was not a patient.
