David Harrison, 64, Bilston, was convicted of the murder of Richard Deakin, a 27 year old from Staffordshire, in December 2012.

He was sentenced to 37 years in jail, but has challenged this at the Court of Appeal in London.

Harrison also tried to appeal against his conviction, but this was rejected. Judges ruled that his sentence was justified.

Lord Justice Beatson said  “The minimum term is indeed a long one. This was a carefully planned and professionally executed professional contract killing in the victim’s own home by a man with previous convictions for firearms offences.”
