Shakeel Ahmed, 31, Sparkhill, was jailed for five years last week after being found guilty of sexual assault at Birmingham Crown Court.
Sarah, 19, Northamptonshire, who is not identified for legal reasons, was visiting Birmingham City Centre to celebrate a friend’s birthday. At 2.30am on Broad Street she got into Ahmed’s car, believing it to be a taxi, and asked to be taken back to her hotel. He took her to a quiet street near to the Mailbox and attacked her.
Police managed to link the attack to Ahmed through DNA traces on Sarah’s clothing.
The teenager has now spoken out hoping that her ordeal will encourage other partygoers to advance book licensed taxi’s to get home safe after nights out.
