Cedric Brown, 46, of no fixed address, has been jailed for five years after car-jacking a mother’s car, with her two children inside it.

In April last year Brown was escaping the scene of an attempted burglary when he threatened Lucy Lawton with a knife told her “quietly but aggressively” to get out, then dragged her out of the vehicle. By this time the police had arrived and Brown sped off with the two children still in the car and the rear door hanging open.

He abandoned the vehicle and was caught following a brief chase.

Judge Stuart Rafferty QC told Birmingham Crown Court Your record is appalling. “You pose a serious risk of serious harm to the public.”

Brown had been featured on BBC’s Crime Watch in 2010 as a suspect in a raid involving knife crime. He was later cleared of this.
