Three men have been jailed for a total of 25 years over a plan to rob a G4S security van in Kidderminster.
Craig Stubs, 28, Wolverhampton, was jailed for 12 years for conspiracy to commit robbery, assaulting a police officer to avoid arrest and wounding a police officer to avoid arrest. His brother, Michael Stubbs, 26, Wolverhampton, was jailed for 8 years and Jamie Barton, 29, Wolverhampton, was jailed for 5 years both for conspiracy to commit robbery.
On 9th June a local woman alerted police when she spotted the men at the rear of a Tesco Express store acting suspiciously, and also noted they were in a white Audi sports car, which she thought didn’t “fit”.
When the police arrived they blocked in the Audi, which made Craig Stubbs panic and attempt to drive away. This crushed one of the officers, PC Townsend, against the police van.
Lynette McClement, prosecuting, said that other officers, PC Heeks and PC Piper, were also injured and PC Townsend was still off work because of his injuries.
The unnamed lady who initially called the police was awarded £100. Judge Patrick Thomas QC said “You were thwarted by the good sense, good judgement and courage of a member of the public and I have awarded her a nominal sum in thanks for her good sense and public spiritedness.”
