Birmingham’s Deputy Coroner Sarah Ormond-Walshe has halted an inquest into the death of Rachel Turner, after hearing evidence from an independent investigation conducted by Rachel’s family.

Rachel died after suffering serious head injuries from a fall at a housing complex in San Antonia, Ibiza in 2007. It was believed that Rachel, aged 22, had committed suicide, but the inquest heard evidence that Rachel also had excessive bruising to her fingers and broken fingernails which suggested she may have held onto the ledge in an attempt to save her life. They also found that text messages had been deleted from her mobile phone before and after her death.

Mark Radburn was instructed by the family because they believed the case had not been adequately investigated by the Spanish or British police and that the post mortem revealed evidence inconsistent with suicide. Their aim was to have the investigation reopened

Ms Ormond-Walshe adjourned the hearing and referred the case to the West Midlands and Spanish police for further investigation.
