Adnan Rafiq, 25, a prisoner at HMP Hewell, died in January after an attack by two other inmates.

Barry Mundle, 34, Jermaine Christie, 28, and Jahnel Faure, 28, all deny murder.

It is alleged that Rafiq was accused of theft and assaulted by Mundle and Christie, Faure is alleged to have prevented Mr Rafiq from escaping from the scene of the attack, which was the cell they shared.

Mr Rafiq suffered injuries to his skull, face and brain, and died in hospital three days after the attack.

Christie claimed that his cellmate had carried out the attack during a situation over which he had no control.

The trial continues.
