Isle of Wight Coroner Caroline Sumeray has ruled that Deborah Morris was unlawfully killed after an inquest heard that she had been stabbed 16 times by her husband, Rory Morris, in their home in Ryde.
Using a bayonet-type knife, which was kept at his bedside, Rory used the handle to hit and awaken Deborah, before stabbing her multiple times. Ricky Morris, Rory’s brother who was staying with them, heard the commotion and called an ambulance. Police were on the scene within minutes and arrested Rory Morris on suspicion of murder, to which he admitted guilt.
Rory Morris had a history of mental breakdowns. Six weeks after being sent to prison having been charged with murder, Mr Morris committed suicide.
A statement released by the family said: “We have always been a very close and loving family, and we are still struggling to come to terms with our loss. Both of our parents were a loving couple, which in turn makes it harder for us to understand what has happened.”
