An illegal clamping firm boss, Andrew Minshull, was jailed in February last year for 32 months after admitting conspiracy to defraud motorists. This week, Judge Robert Juckes QC has ordered cash from Minshull’s assets to be paid back to victims.
The firm, Midland Parking Contracts, bullied and intimidated motorists into paying for clamping devices to be removed from their cars. Signs prohibiting parking were small, unlit, hidden, or put up after cars had been parked.
The court heard that Minshull benefitted from the crime with over £300,000. £121,262 could now be seized for the compensation payments. If the payments are not made within six months, Judge Juckes ordered that an additional 2 and a half years will be added to Minshulls sentence.
Anthony Potter, prosecuting, said that the victims would receive about 84% of what they had paid out.
