Robert Burbury, 47, has been cleared of causing the death of Leighton Hollins, 29, by driving without due care and attention.

Burbury hit Mr Hollins on the A511 Ashby by-pass on 19 November 2011. He dialled 999 and was trying to resuscitate the victim, however he died of multiple injuries.

The jury unanimously acquitted Burbury after deliberating for 90 minutes at Leicester Crown Court.

Sally Hancox, defending, said “No winners will emerge from this. He knows he killed a man. He stayed there and tried to help him.”
