An undercover police operation caught drugs runner Benjamin Pengilly “red handed” after he acquired approximately £40,000 worth of cocaine.
Mr Michael Duck QC said that Pengilly, 32 from Shrewsbury, had a limited role in the operation involving massive amounts of drugs and money.
He is one of 28 people who were arrested following surveillance, listening devices and mobile phone monitoring. The jury was told that Phoenix Car Centre in Ditherington Road, Shrewsbury, was the base for the drugs dealers.
Pengilly was caught after being followed driving to a motorway service station in Cheshire with Philip Jennings, 39. Upon arrival at the services, Pengilly got out of the car; another man got into the car with Jennings for a minute, and then drove away.
Michael Duck QC said “Those at the top did not soil their hands and it was people like Pengilly who were employed to take the risk”
The case continues.
