James Duut, 32 from Birmingham has been jailed for trying to murder his Aunt, Patricia McDonnell, and passing it off as suicide, after stealing £10,000 from her.
Miss McDonnell was given a cup of tea laced with a sleeping aid, throttled and her body left surrounded by tablets in a hotel in Birmingham. Duut believed he had got away with the crime but three hours later his Aunt regained consciousness and was found when a hotel maid heard her cries for help. Just a month before the crime Duut had stolen £10,050 from his aunt’s bank account.
