Paul Marshall has joined the Commercial and Chancery and International Groups at No5 Chambers. Formerly at 4-5 Grays Inn Square, Mr Marshall’s move in part has been prompted by No5 Chambers’ increased national presence serviced via its offices in London, Birmingham and Bristol, giving him the opportunity to further develop his business and company law practice both nationally and internationally.
Paul comments: “I am naturally excited to be joining a winning team. No5 Chambers has identified clear strategic goals which it implements through an effective business model, and by well-led management and clerking teams. Not only does No5 Chambers understand the language of law and business, but it is also innovative in its thinking about the legal profession and meeting the needs of clients for legal services, both domestically and internationally.”
Mr Marshall, who was called to the Bar in 1991, was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge University, the London School of Economics and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Prior to being called to the Bar he was an Army officer.
Recommended by the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners as a leading commercial barrister, Paul’s practice covers commercial and business law, including domestic and international litigation and arbitration, contract law including domestic and European competition law, commercial fraud, money laundering law and regulation and company law. Chambers and Partners say: “Sources praise his original mind and capacity for lateral thinking” and that “[he] has amassed a considerable body of expertise across a wide range of commercial disputes, including insurance, licensing and civil fraud”.
Paul has edited and contributed to a wide range of publications, including a number of standard reference works, and is a regular contributor to the professional and academic journals.
Tony McDaid, Practice Director at No5, comments: “I am very pleased to welcome Paul Marshall to No5 Chambers. He is a confident, able and respected practitioner and has demonstrated his expertise across a raft of challenging, complex cases, often with international dimensions. I look forward to him making a valuable contribution to the Commercial and Chancery and International Groups at No5 Chambers, headed by Richard Jones QC.”
Mr Marshall is a member of the International Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Chancery Bar Association, the Commercial Bar Association, and the Society for Advanced Legal Studies.
He is married with three daughters, is an enthusiastic cyclist – though confessing to being older, slower and somewhat heavier than the great Bradley Wiggins – and is a member of the editorial board of Counsel Magazine.
