David Holloway has appeared on BBC Radio Wiltshire to discuss the legal implications of a local firm’s exploration for oil in the Falklands.
Rockhopper, based in Salisbury, is one of several firms which has been licensed to explore for gas and oil to the north of the Falklands. Argentina argues that the Falklands, or “Las Malvinas”, which have been under British rule since 1833, are Argentinian and that all oil and gas exploration in the region is illegal.
The lucrative oil reserves are estimated to be worth several billion pounds to the Falklands through tax and royalties.
