Paul Thompson and wife not guilty of drugs plot
LIFE tastes good for cocaine-taking police officer Paul Thompson and his successful wife Susan as they celebrate being cleared of a drugs plot.
Minutes after the jury foreman at Newcastle Crown Court cleared the couple, the former detective sergeant and his wife, known as Susie, were celebrating in the sunshine.
In the shadow of the Millennium Bridge on the banks of the Tyne they donned sunglasses while Thompson took off his jacket and tie to bask in the sunshine and pop £40-a-bottle champagne corks.
They said it was the first time they have smiled in a long time while the court case and the threat of prison hung over them.
And as the torment of the past year was lifted from him, dad-of-one Thompson, who no longer takes the drug, talked exclusively to the Chronicle about his nightmare ordeal.
