A driver who hit and killed a Willenhall teenager will spend Christmas behind bars.
Margaret Gaturu, 42, pressed the accelerator instead of the brake when she tried to avoid Bradley Galvin, 16, on the mini-roundabout that links Robin Hood Road with Remembrance Road on April 23.
She ended up hitting the teenager, who was cycling with a friend, and dragging him and his bike over the roundabout.
Bradley, who lived with his family in Marlcroft, Willenhall, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gaturu, whose address was given in court as Mary Slessor Street, Willenhall, only had a provisional driving licence. The court heard that she had a full licence in Kenya.
She pleaded guilty to causing death by driving without due care and attention and yesterday at Coventry Crown Court she was jailed for 12 months.
She will serve half her sentence before being released on licence.
So many of Bradley’s family and friends attended yesterday’s hearing that some had to wait outside. Many wore T-shirts with Bradley’s picture on.
His mum Andrea sat with a picture of Bradley, but was asked to put it away by the judge.
Nigel Wilkins, prosecuting, said: “Before the collision the defendant and the deceased were effectively facing each other.
“What then happened was the defendant went to her right and Bradley Galvin went to his left.
“They both went the same way to avoid the collision.”
