For some months it has been clear that the Treasury and business arms of Government in the form of Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, and the Business Secretary, Vince Cable, have been unhappy that proposals from the DCLG in the form of Eric Pickles would impede development and so limit growth.
The result is a budget which signals a much more favourable approach to new housing than statements and previous appeal decisions from Pickles had suggested. The question for those who represent Gypsies and Travellers is whether they can share the gains of the house-builders, perhaps relying on the Prime Minister’s comments about fairness.
