Three Barristers from No 5 Chambers, Tim Jones, Professor Nelson Enonchong and David Holloway, were invited to join an international delegation at a conference to mark the 145th anniversary of the founding of the Budapest Lawyers Association.
The conference took place in Budapest on 29 April 2011 and dealt with a number of topics including the Authenticity of Legal Documents, International Arbitration and Self-Regulation of Banks -London Rules and Budapest Rules. The speakers and delegates included an array of practising lawyers, diplomats and representatives from international organisations such as the IBA as well as figures from the commercial world.
Tim Jones was responsible for the coordination of the event by virtue of the strong links between the Midland Circuit and the Hungarian Bar Association. Mr Jones also co-chaired a cross jurisdictional panel on international arbitration which formed an integral part of the conference.
Professor Enonchong gave a presentation entitled The Scope of Arbitration Agreements, which contained an extensive review of international arbitral case-law on the subject.
David Holloway gave a presentation on the 2010 IBA Rules on the Taking of Evidence in International Arbitration, which contained observations on the implications of the new rules on arbitral practice.
The speakers from No5 Chambers shared this platform with a number of eminent Hungarian speakers including Professor Laszlo Kecskes, President of the Arbitration Court attached to the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peter Nagy, Nagy és Trócsányi Law Firm).
