A Solihull primary school teacher who downloaded images of child pornography has escaped a prison sentence.
Timothy Davis, who was a teacher at Monkspath Junior and Infant School in Shirley, was given a community sentence with three years supervision and ordered to take part in a sex offender treatment programme after pleading guilty to four charges of making indecent images.
Judge Christopher Metcalf ordered Davis, aged 38, of Whitford Drive, Solihull, to register as a sex offender for five years.
He told Warwick Crown Court there was no question of any of Davis’s own pupils being involved.
Officers found 134 child porn images on Davis’s computer. Most were of the least serious level but four were deemed to be the most serious, depicting adults engaging in sexual activity with children, one which involved a child aged two or three.
Michael Duck, defending, said: “He has carried a responsibility with children for some time. The conviction has destroyed him. It is no exaggeration to say he is something of a broken man. He has been receiving help from his GP.”
Judge Metcalf also made orders banning Davis from working with children or undertaking any paid, voluntary or recreational activity which would bring him into unsupervised contact with any person under 18.
