A CROOKED cop who tried to con an Indian restaurant in a protection racket has been jailed for 15 months.
West Midlands Police Sergeant Hemantsinh Vasia, 39, and his accomplice Mark Thomas targeted the Red Mango in Tividale.
They smashed a window at the restaurant before telling owners it was the work of a feared criminal gang, who wanted £15,000 to halt further attacks.
The terrified bosses initially paid Vasia and Thomas £5,000, but the shady duo were arrested after an investigation by anti-corruption police.
The disgraced sergeant resigned from the force in September last year.
He was jailed for nine months at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday after admitting one count of fraud. He was also ordered to pay £5,000 compensation to the Red Mango.
