Off-duty detective fined after fleeing car crash and lying to police

An off-duty detective drove off from a car crash and then lied to police by saying he had been at home with his wife all afternoon.

Detective Constable Mark Dennis, sped away from the crash scene, followed by the driver he bumped into.

The trained police response driver reached speeds of up to 50mph in a 30mph zone in his Fiat Punto as he refused to stop.

Dennis was fined £600 for the two offences, with 11 penalty points. He must also pay £135 costs.
