The relationship with one’s grandparents is always a special one. And for my sister and me, the fact that we only had the chance to know one of our grandfathers, the other one having died over 60 years ago, made him an especially unique figure in our lives. His Honour Alan King-Hamilton Q.C. was the epitome of a doting grandfather and I adored him. When he passed away in March aged 105, I lost my mentor as well as my grandfather. I have no doubt that were it not for his example, I would not be at the Bar today.
