BIRMINGHAM gang-busters today said they are winning the war against gun crime thanks to a blitz which has seen some prolific members of notorious street gangs given jail sentences totalling nearly 60 years.

They are confident now that gangs such as the Burger Bar Boys and Johnson Crew, which once spread fear throughout communities, no longer existed in the way they did seven or eight years ago.

Among those brought to justice under a crackdown by the Handsworth-based team are two men who were caught with a fully loaded Mac-10 machine pistol, labelled a “cold killing machine” by police.
