David Lock in Dr Ubani Inquest
David Lock
of No5 chambers represented Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust in the high profile Inquest into the death of David Grey and Iris Edwards, who both died following treatment by a German locum doctor, Dr Ubani. The German based doctor was on his first shift providing out of hours case.
The Coroner gave his verdict on 5th February 2009, concluding that Mr Gray died as a result of an unlawful killing by Dr Ubani and that Mrs Edwards died of natural causes.
This high profile Inquest attracted national media attention as it focuses on the risks of foreign practising doctors who come to the UK to work in out of hours care. The Coroner made extensive recommendations about changes to the system and the Department of Health published a specific report on the quality assurance systems associated with Out of Hours care.
