The youngest criminal silk in the country will lead a legal seminar this month in Birmingham.
Michelle Heeley QC will be a keynote speaker at a Case Law Update seminar, hosted by the Crime Group at No5 Barristers’ Chambers.
The seminar will be held on Tuesday, September 25th from 12.30 to 2pm at No5 Barristers’ Chambers in Fountain Court, Steelhouse Lane.
Michelle regularly prosecutes and defends in the most serious of cases, from nationwide drugs conspiracies to murder. She sits as a Recorder and presides over Serious Sexual Offences.
She recently featured on BBC2’s The Prosecutors: Prisons, Drugs and Drones, working with Senior Crown Prosecutor, Eran Cutliffe.
The seminar will include an update for solicitors in respect of Hybrid orders under s45A of the Mental Health Act, and developments in s41 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act. Michelle will provide an update on s41 and its application in conjunction with s100 of the CJA 2003.
Michelle will be joined by Sophie Murray, another member of the Crime Group at No5 Barristers’ Chambers.
Sophie is an experienced junior advocate who specialises in representing vulnerable defendants and those with autism. She regularly advises on instructing mental health experts and related defences in a range of cases.
During the seminar, Sophie will discuss the application of s45a of the Mental Health Act, considering defendants with autism.
